PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device capable of measuring frequency for performing measurement of a maximum dynamic range or wider of A/D conversion without using any expensive A/D converter. SOLUTION: An analog input signal is converted into an A/D convertible frequency band by means of a frequency converting means 100, only the frequency element of a single frequency range n within a measurement frequency section to be measured is passed through a BPF 101, and the level of the passed frequency element is adjusted by a level converting means 102 so that a maximum dynamic range can be obtained in the A/D conversion. The frequency element with the adjusted level is converted into digital data by means of an A/D converter 103, and from the digital data, a frequency characteristic of the frequency range n is computed by means of a frequency characteristic computing means 105. The frequency characteristics of a plurality of frequency ranges n obtained by repeating these processes are combined together by means of a combining means 106, and consequently, the frequency characteristic over the whole measured frequency sections can be obtained.
