<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the multiplex level of a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: In the device, multiplex addressing is performed, and the surface alignment is matched to a cholesteric material so as to give progressive molecular distortion by larger thanπradian and smaller than 2πradian in a uniform tilt direction. The ratio of the on-voltage to the off-voltage is <1.165.</p> |
