Gearcase (17) for application with height-adjustable support pillars (1) coupled to one another for supporting a table top (6). Height-adjustment is carried out by a threaded rod (16) having its upper end rotatably received in the uppermost section (2) of a support pillar and extending through a nut (15) in a base (4) being slidably received in section (2). Threaded rod (16) has a conical gear wheel (30) engaging a driving conical gear wheel (31, 34) mounted on a coupling rod (36, 37) at the other support pillar (1) likewise provided with a conical gear wheel. Gearcase (17) comprises a threaded rod receiving part (18) in which said threaded rod (16) extends and to which an adjusting part (20) is coupled for receiving coupling rods (36, 37) situated in a common plane (35). Said adjusting part can be rotated around the longitudinal axis (21) of the threaded rod (16) in relation to the threaded rod receiving part (18) and can be locked in a number of positions.
