The stopper to plug the opening of a vessel, for laboratory work, has a circular sealing zone (6) around the outer circumference for a sealed fit against the inner wall of the vessel opening. It has an axial passage (4) which is closed by a dialysis membrane barrier (2). The stopper has a base (3) with the axial passage (4), covered by the dialysis membrane (2), and a sealing lip (5) with a circular cylinder shape at the side of the base (3) to carry the sealing bead (6) at the far end of the sealing lip (5). The base (3) with the dialysis membrane (2) covering the axial passage (4) and the sealing lip, together, form a cup (12) to hold the dialysis sample with a maximum capacity of 250 Microl. The dialysis membrane (2) is held at the side of the base (3) away from the sealing zone (6). A projecting edge (8) is at the other side of the base (3), at least partially around the passage. The edge (8) has at least one lateral passage opening (9) through it, which extends to the level of the dialysis membrane (2), as a pocket (9) from the far end of the edge (8) to the base (3). The stopper has at least one projection (11) for support at the edge of the opening into the vessel, formed by the base (3) to extend to the side over the sealing lip (5). The stopper has at least one tab, extending to the side and preferably two tabs at diametrically opposite sides. The stopper is for the openings of laboratory vessels with a capacity of 1.5-2.2 ml. The stopper is of a plastics material. The dialysis membrane (2) has an exclusion threshold of 4-100 kD. The membrane (2), of a different material from the stopper, is held in place by welding and/or an adhesive and/or by sealing and/or by injection molding and/or by firm clamping.
