PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adapt a guide member to the width of a tape piece by advancing/ retreating it without any tool, to simplify adjustment work, to simplify the work when a sewing part is in a narrow space such as an over-edge chain stitching machine and to improve the working efficiency. SOLUTION: This fabric guide device is provided with a presser leg 2 for the over-edge chain stitch having a notch part 2a for a needle location in one side along the fabric feeding direction, a pair of cylindrical support parts 6, 7 arranged approximately parallel to each other and fixed to the presser leg, an inside guide part 8a arranged between the both inside ends of the cylindrical support part and guiding one side edge of the tape piece, and a guide member 9 having its both ends fitted against the resisting force relative to the both outside ends of the cylindrical support part so as to axially advance/retreat and bent into an approximately U shape so as to insert the tape piece from the fitting state. The guide member which has an elastic force in the opening direction from the bent state is locked in the advance/retreat direction by the frictional resistance between the cylindrical support part and the both ends of the guide member.
