A folding frame for a bicycle, motor cycle or motor scooter comprises a forward portion including a steering head tube L with folding handlebars 2, a front fork 3 carrying a front wheel 4, and a downtube 5, and a rear portion including a seat tube 6, seat stays 7, chain stays 8 and a back wheel 9, the forward and rear frame portions being hinged together about an axis inclined to the plane of the frame (e.g. at 90 degrees thereto) and latch means being provided for locking the frame portions together in the erected and in the folded condition. The down tube 5 is pivoted by a horizontal pin 12 carried between a pair of plates 11 to the bottom bracket 10. The latch means comprises a member 14 pivotally mounted in an opening in the bottom bracket 10 between the plates 11, the member 14 having an inclined latching face 16 which engages with a face of an insert 17 in the down tube 5 when the frame is erected, and having a latching hook 19 which engages with a pin 20 on the drum tube 5 when the frame is folded. The member 14 is urged by a spring 18 into engagement with the insert 17 or the pin 20, and is disengageable therefrom by manual operation of a portion 15 against the spring. |
