摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide alumina-based formed bodies which have high strength and high apparent density, and the adsorptivity and surface activity of which are maintained at high levels, respectively, and also in each of which reduction in size of meso-pores capable of becoming adsorption sites is inhibited from being caused. SOLUTION: The alumina-based formed bodies are formed by subjecting an alumina-based powder to compressive forming and heat treatment, wherein, in the alumina-based powder, alumina having γ-alumina structure and/or structures near to the γ-alumina structure is used in a 50-95 wt.% ratio to the total weight of the alumina-based powder, where each of the alumina-based formed bodies has >=0.30 kg/mm crushing strength per unit height of the body, and also with respect to the alumina-based formed bodies, the peak of the pore distribution curve in the pore diameter range of 20 to 700 Å, measured by a nitrogen adsorption method, is positioned at a pore diameter point within the range of 90 to 150 Å.
