PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a power cable using a radio frequency are provided to enable a user to control a target equipment easily by inputting a control signal using radio communication scheme and controlling the target equipment using a wire communication scheme. CONSTITUTION: A target equipments(A,B,C) are connected to a power cable and have modems(21A,21B,21C) using the power cable and a microcomputer(22A,22B,22c) for controlling the modems therein. An adapter(23) having a radio receiving part(24) on a side thereof is connected to the power cable to receive a radio frequency. The adapter(23) also have a transforming part(25) and a transmitting part(26). The transforming part(25) transforms a data received through a radio communication scheme into a format adaptive for the power cable and the transmitting part(26) transmits the transformed data to the target equipments via the power cable. A microcomputer(27) in the adapter(23) operates the transforming part(25) in case of a received data being present, analyses that which target equipment receives the received data and which control is performed, and outputs the results to the transmitting part(26).
