PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling a driving power of a plasma display panel are provided to maintain constantly the power consumption without an electrical shock at a system. CONSTITUTION: A load rate prediction portion(51) predicts a load rate of each frame by calculating a mean signal level of input video data signals(R,G,B). A discharge number control portion(53) controls the display number and the discharge number of the frame which is inversely proportional to the predicted load rate. A correlation measurement portion(52) measures a correlation between each frame and the previous frame by processing the input video data signals(R,G,B). A control timing regulator portion(54) regulates the display-discharge number by controlling an output timing of the discharge number control portion(53) according to the correlation.
