The reel comprises a base (1) surmounted by a frame (2) able to be handled by a fork lift truck. A reel support hub (3) which rotates freely on a shaft (13) carried by supports (12,24) has cheek webs (30) on either side. One cheek web and one support on the same side can be removed to allow loading of the reel.
