PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system in which an image is improved on a display device that displays pixels. SOLUTION: Each pixel has strength indicated by a pixel value. The strength of a prescribed pixel is related to the number of pulses generated in a pair of subfields for a frame time. Pulses are assigned in accordance with a pulse distribution during a pair of subfields. In the method, a maximum pixel value to be displayed for a frame time is determined, the number of pulses in a prescribed subfield is switched based on the value and the pulse distribution is updated by the switching.
