An electronic control system for a car with an engine (1), an engine control apparatus (4), a fuel pump (2) and a detection unit (5) for an unauthorized use of the vehicle, is described. The fuel pump is connected via a bus system (9) with the engine control apparatus and the detection unit so that via this bus system, the detection unit deactivates the fuel pump upon detection of an unauthorized use of the vehicle and/or the engine control apparatus matches operating parameters of the pump to the instantaneous need. The bus system is designed so that each of the three building blocks can communicate with each other.
