Fireproof sealing cords, comprise a plastic sheath which is impermeable to diffusion and a filling of plastic, inorganic (non-combustible) sealing material. In a fire, the filling material provides a solid composite structure which prevents the escape of smoke gases and the ingress of oxygen, even at 1000-2000[deg]C. Independent claims are also included for: (a) sealing cords as above, which also become intumescent at high temperature in case of fire; (b) non-combustible plastic sealing materials (with or without intumescent properties) which do not give off toxic gases when exposed to fire and which form a solid composite at 1000-2000[deg]C.
