The present invention relates to an optimal power supply method for an alternating-current electric motor driven by a DC/AC and AC/DC/AC static frequency convertor, as well as a device implementing this method. This optimal power supply method for a load (23; 125) of an inductive nature coupled to an application (27), this load (23; 125) being driven by a static convertor (124) controlled by an electronic module (123), constituting the electronic control device of the load, is characterised in that at any moment it delivers to the load (23, 125), by the agency of setting parameters (26) applied to the controls of the convertor (22, 24), a voltage (Um) by sensing the direction of variation about an extreme corresponding to a minimum power absorbed by the load (23; 125), from one or more control parameters (PC) which are weighted and/or combined together. The optimal power supply method as well as the device implementing it according to the present invention apply to all types of loads of an inductive nature.
