[Also in Division H1] In a change-pole, split-phase motor having a high-speed (four-pole) winding M 1 and a lower speed (six-pole) winding M 2 , this latter winding is connected in parallel with a six-pole starting winding S to initiate starting, whatever speed is required. In addition, there is an eight-pole winding M 3 . Phase-splitting may be by capacitor 47 or by resistance. The starting connection is made by centrifugal unit 100 in its inert position by closing contacts 73, 74 and 53. At speed, these contacts are opened and running contacts 76 and 54 are closed, and this brings the speed selector switch 60 into circuit to give the desired speed. For eight-pole operation, winding M 3 is assisted by four-pole winding M 1 . Likewise, windings M 1 and M 3 could assist the six-pole winding M 2 .</p> |
