PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide method capable of easily starting continuous casting without the occurrence of hot water leakage, etc. SOLUTION: (1) The cooling water prepared by injecting a prescribed amount of carbon dioxide to cooling water of a pH<=5.0 is injected to an ingot (1) at the casting start to be dawn out of a water cooled casting mold. (2) The cooling water prepared by adding an organic compound containing an alcohol group thereto and further injecting a prescribed amount of the carbon dioxide thereto is otherwise injected to the ingot. Accordingly, a small slow cooling effect may be stably obtained according to (1) and the higher slow cooling effect may be stably obtained by injection of a small amount of the carbon dioxide according to (2). Then, the continuous casting may be easily started by selectively using (1) or (2) according to the kinds, etc., of the ingot without the occurrence of the hot water leakage, etc.
