PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding material which allows the application of a gas metal arc welding method high in efficiency to welding for high chromium steel containing Cr of 8 to 13% and to provide a GMA welding method excellent in arc stability. SOLUTION: This welding material has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.01 to 0.15% C, 0.1 to 0.6% Si, 0.1 to 2.0% Mn, 8 to 13% Cr, 0.1 to 1.5% Ni, 0.3 to 2.0% Mo, 0.05 to 0.5% V, 0.08 to 0.5% W, 0.5 to 5.0% Co, 0.1 to 0.5% Ta, <=0.08% N, 0.01 to 0.1% rare earth metals, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. In the gas metal arc welding method, the concentration of oxygen in shield gas composed of a gaseous mixture of gaseous Ar and gaseous He is controlled to 0.25% or less.
