PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rust preventive treatment method for a copper or copper alloy material which is capable of uniformly and efficiently forming a secure rust preventive protective film without contamination of a working environment even if the material is subjected to a rust preventive treatment at a drawing speed. SOLUTION: A copper wire 14 drawn to a desired diameter by a drawing die is passed through the inside of a pretreatment vessel 13 in a drawing line and jet gushing water is admitted into the pretreatment vessel 13 from jetting inlets 11. The lubricant, copper powder, etc., existing on the surface of the copper wire 14 are then removed and a thin film consisting of Cu2O is uniformly formed on the surface of the copper wire 14. The copper wire 14 is thereafter introduced into the rust preventive treatment vessel 23 in the drawing line in succession thereto and a BTA solution is admitted from jetting inlets 21 into the rust preventive treatment vessel 23. The secure and uniform rust preventive protective film is then formed on the surface of the copper wire 14.
