PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a squeezing type dehydrator which presses piled pieces of laundry containing moisture with an elastic pressing surface, and also a dehydrating method, and to provide a technical means which avoids damage to the laundry caused by deviation of the same at dehydration position and damage to the elastic pressing surface. SOLUTION: A water-passing receptacle surface for mounting the laundry is made concave and the elastic pressing surface for pressing the laundry is made convex. According to the method, after a peripheral wall enclosing the periphery of the water-passing receptacle surface is sideward moved by a predetermined distance is a direction of loading the laundry, the laundry is loaded, then the peripheral wall is returned to the initial location, and thereafter, the elastic pressing surface 12 is lowered. By making the water-passing receptacle surface concave, the laundry loaded thereon slides to the lower central location, to thereby correct a deviated state. When the laundry is received by moving the peripheral wall, the location at which the laundry is received corresponds to the center of a basket.
