PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treated steel sheet for a resin-coated vessel suitable for the material for a can requiring adhesion to laminated resin and corrosion resistance after resin lamination which allows the same to withstand severe working and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In this surface treated steel sheet for a resin-coated vessel excellent in adhesion for resin and corrosion resistance after resin lamination, both sides or one side of a steel sheet is provided with a phosphate layer. Preferably, the phosphate layer is composed of magnesim phosphate or iron phosphate and magnesium phosphate. In the method for producing the same, the surface of a steel sheet is coated or sprayed with an aqueous solution containing magnesium phosphate and phosphoric acid, or the steel sheet is dipped into the aqueous solution, and, after that, drying, water-washing and drying are performed, and, as pretreatment, the steel sheet is subjected to anodic electrolysis treatment in an aqueous solution containing one or two kinds of a mixture of disodium hydrogen phosphate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate and phosphoric acid.
