PURPOSE: A data input apparatus for a portable radio terminal and a method thereof are provided to offer the convenience of a data input by inputting data using the portable radio terminal through an external input device. CONSTITUTION: A control unit checks whether an external input device is matched(413). If the external input device is matched, the control unit converts a mode of a portable radio terminal into an external data input mode(415). The control unit checks whether the match of the external input device is released(417). If the match of the external input device is released, the control unit converts the mode of the portable radio terminal into an internal data input mode(419).
