摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve characteristics of life for a fluorescent lamp of an external electrode type taking advantage of a dielectric barrier discharge. SOLUTION: The fluorescent lamp of the external electrode type taking advantage of the dielectric barrier discharge is composed of paired electrodes along the longitudinal direction of the bulb 11 filled with xenon gas. Inside of the bulb 11, phosphor layer P is coated along the longitudinal direction except the mouth 17. The phosphor layer P uses as blue phosphor B, aluminate phosphor activated with either europium or europium manganese a so-called BAM phosphor. For the phosphors R, G and B for surface layer P2 affecting deterioration, the life property is improved by way of making average diameter of the phosphor larger, e.g. 5μm or more, through excluding of minute particles and by reducing the surface area per mass to hold deterioration due to ultraviolet ray or ion bombardment.
