PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a narrow band optical filter having a multilayered film structure which relaxes precision required for its film thickness and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In the narrow band optical filter consisting of N-stages of cavity type optical filters and its manufacturing method, a dielectric multilayered film F is formed by laminating a high refractive index substance A, a low refractive index substance B and a substance C forming spacer layers with respective film thickness described by F1=[(HL)MfNS(LH)ML]N or F2=[(LH)M fNS(HL)MH]N]. The substance C forming the spacer layers has a wavelength of the shorter wavelength side absorption edgeλc which is larger than either of the wavelengths of the shorter wavelength side absorption edgesλa andλbof the high and low refractive index substances A and B. Furthermore, the narrow band optical filter comprises a substance which produces a color center by being irradiated with light having a wavelengthλp satisfying the relationλa,λb<λp<λc.
