PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable and high reliable fixing device by eliminating unnecessary contact between a fixing roller and a cleaning member unnecessarily when a printing operation is not performed thereby preventing the deformation and meandering of the cleaning member and also, eliminating excessive friction between the fixing roller and the cleanig member when the printing operation is not performed. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a cleaning device retracting mechanism for moving a cleaning device forward and backward with reference to the surface of the fixing roller.
