PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cooling efficiency of a light source section of a projection type liquid crystal display device without affecting the downsizing of the device. SOLUTION: The neck part of a glass reflector 2 for holding the light source 1 is provided with a heat radiation plate 10a of a cylindrical shape and planar heat radiation fins 10b are mounted at this heat radiation plate 10a radially to the optical axis of the light source 1. The heat from the light source 1 is conducted via the glass reflector 2 and the heat radiation plate 10a to the heat radiation fins 10b. The heat is radiated from the heat radiation fins 10b to the circumference.
