PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiplex/de-multiplex system for multi-channel. SOLUTION: Plural pieces of units consisting of a set of an optical filter and an AWG type optical multiplxer/de-multiplexer are used higherarachically, and first of all, a wavelength multiplex optical signals having many single wavelength beams (channels) is made incident on the optical filter of a first stage unit, and the optical signals by the number of channels that the AWG type optical multiplexer/de-multiplexer of the first stage unit is capable of receiving are transmitted through, and are made incident on the AWG type optical multiplexer/de-multiplxer of the first stage unit, and the optical signals by the number of channels are de-multiplexed to respective channels, and the optical signals of residual channels are made incident collectively on the optical filter of a second stage unit. |
