PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azimuth detection method and device that determine the true north direction with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The azimuth detection method, where a gyro device (3) is installed so that a detection axis (3A) of the gyro device (3) coincides with a rotation axis (2B) of a revolution surface (2A) on the revolution surface (2A) parallel to a horizontal plane, determines a sinusoidal gyro output by rotating a revolution table (2) having the revolution surface (2A), the azimuths of east and west based on the sinusoidal gyro output, and then the true north azimuth based on these azimuths of the east and west.
