PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of discriminating between a primary battery and a secondary battery, which can surely discriminate between a primary battery and a secondary battery by a simple method and so arranged as to charge only the secondary battery. SOLUTION: This method is equipped with first discrimination steps (steps 3 and 4) of making a current at a first with a specified current value flow to a battery to be charged thereby charging it, and discriminating the battery to be charged, where the voltage of the terminal has come to a first set voltage or over, to be a primary battery and eliminating it from charging treatment, and second discrimination steps of switching it next over to trickle charging (step 5) to charge it with a current which is weaker than the charging current in the first discrimination steps, and charging the battery to be charged which has not reached the first set voltage in the first discrimination step, and discriminating a battery to be charged, where the voltage of the terminal has come to the second set voltage or higher at passage of second specified time, to be a primary battery and eliminating it from the charging treatment, and discriminating a battery to be charged, where the voltage of the terminal is under the second set voltage, to be a secondary battery.
