An escort memory device (30) allows a person to remember only a single code and use that code to retrieve whatever identifying password may be required for access to a secure facility. An escort memory device (30) nearly the size and shape of a credit card has a display (32); a keypad (34); and a housing (44) having a writing portion (46). A user (50) of the device (30) may initially use the keypad (34) to enter both an escort memory access code and a separate identifying code associated with each secure site or equipment. Subsequently, when the user desires access to a selected site (52) or equipment he can enter the escort access code and then read, from the display (32), the identifying code that is needed. In addition, the user can write a mnemonic descriptor on a designated blank writing portion (46) of the housing (44) for each stored identifying code.
