Method for processing e-mail in a computer system where there is one or more receiving computers (102) between a senders and addressees. Method has the following steps: separation and storage of any attachments from the e-mail in the intermediate mail-server computer (102) and replacement of the attachment with a reference to it before sending on the e-mail to the addressee. Independent claims are made for a system for processing e-mail according to the above method a software application that can be loaded in computer memory to carry out the method steps and a computer system for use with the software application.
