METHOD FOR TREATING OIL-CONTAINING SLUDGE

A method for treating an oil-containing sludge, which comprises contacting the oil-containing sludge with a treating agent containing a quick lime as its primary component, thereby vaporizing and removing water and a part of the oil in the oil-containing sludge through the heat generated by the reaction of the water in the oil-containing sludge with the quick lime in the treating agent and, at the same time, allowing the slaked lime formed by the above reaction in the form of particles to adsorb the residual oil and to form a calcium carbonate layer covering the surface of the particles, to provide powdery and dry particles containing an oil in the interior thereof. The resultant powdery particles provided by the method are free from the leak of an oil and are suitably used for a fertilizer, a flaming aid, a building and civil engineering material, a road material and the like.
