The mounting for the battery (12) of accumulators in a motor vehicle (10) is fitted within the bonnet (14) in front of the passenger compartment (16). The bonnet space and passenger space are separated by a wall, with the battery being mounted in front of a mechanical section (18,22). This includes a sharp pointed element (26) directed forwards towards the battery. In the event of a collision causing a sudden shock, the battery moves towards the mechanical section, but the pointed element (26) is designed to penetrate the battery, puncturing it. This prevents the mechanical element, which may be the master cylinder of the braking system, being forced into the passenger compartment, causing injury.
