When performing a cell search for a perch channel, a mobile communication device may use information determined from a previous connection in order to reduce the time taken to perform the search. For example a previously determined perch channel spread code or the timing offset between different cells may be used if a predetermined time since the last communication has not been exceeded. The estimated speed of a mobile station during a previous communication may be used to estimate a mobiles current location and subsequently determine if previous communication information should be disregarded. |
