PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rocking machining method in engraving discharge machining capable of proving a uniform finished face in a short machining time. SOLUTION: This machining method includes a process for detecting which divided area among a plurality of divided areas divided by the predetermined division number in a predetermined rocking shape 14, in which an electrode is relatively moved in the lateral direction, includes a reaching point 18 of lateral directional machining when machining depth directional machining reaches a predetermined desired point 19 and lateral directional machining reaches the predetermined desired point 18 and a process 141 for changing an electrode relative movement locus so that it skips the detected divided area or at least one divided area in the group of plurality of detected divided areas, and processing is repeated until machining depth directional machining reaches the predetermined desired point and lateral directional machining reaches the predetermined desired point in all the divided areas.
