PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modification process which yields a durable effect with a trace amount of functional material, and a surface-modified member using the same. SOLUTION: This surface modification process may durably impart not only hydrophilicity but also various properties such as water repellency, oil repellency, antibacterial property, antistatic property, etc. to a surface, depending on the function of the selected functional group, by allowing a photosemiconductor to undergo photoexcitation with an appropriate molecule 1 having a predetermined functional group. The surface-modified member is prepared by using the process.
