PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain both the restraint of an increase in compressor driving power and assurance of a heat regenerating amount by condensed water of an evaporator in a heat regenerating type vehicle air conditioner. SOLUTION: This air conditioner is so formed that, in operating a compressor 1, setting may be switched between an ordinary mode of controlling the temperature of the evaporator 9 at such a level that the condensed water is not frozen and a heat regerating mode of controlling the temperature of the evaporator 9 at a level below freezing temperature, so that the condensed water is frozen and, in both the ordinary mode and the heat regenerating mode, the restarting target temperature for restarting the compressor 1 may be set so as to be higher by a prescribed value than the stopping target value for stopping the compressor 1, thereby setting a maximum hysteresis width of a difference between the stopping target temperature and the restating target temperature smaller in the heat regenerating mode than in the ordinary mode.
