PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode ray tube which is inexpensive has less color shading and has a stable quality, in a color cathode ray tube having a shadow mask suspended to a support in a state of applied tension. SOLUTION: A band member having a thin-walled biasing portion toward both sides from a middle portion is formed as a support by pressing a metal member. Then a member with L-shaped cross section is uses which is obtained by bending the band member by roll mold in its width direction and bending to form a curved portion at the middle portion. The support obtained by this method has the same strength as prior arts, while is lighter in weight and can be economically made by a relatively simple process. Further, dispersions in thickness are less, so that dispersions in tension force applied to the shadow mask can be suppressed.
