PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retaining ring for a permanent magnet of a rotary electric machine materializing highly strengthened and thinned make. SOLUTION: The retaining ring is capped on the peripheral surface of the permanent magnet of cylindrical shape to constitute a rotor of the rotary electric machine. The retaining ring is composed of inconel 718, manufactured by a cold drawing process with a cross section reduction rate Rr of >=10% and an aging treatment and provided with the Rockwell hardness HRC >=45.
