摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a dynamic change of luminance of a surface mode liquid crystal device having a liquid crystal layer having an angle of torsion not 0 deg. for a driving method for a display device. SOLUTION: When a voltage applied to a cell decreases, luminance rises rapidly rather than rises smoothly to a new value, reaches an unbalanced maximum value, and then decreases gently to a balanced value. The luminance of a display is increased by switching the liquid crystal layer, before the luminance reaches the balanced value, and using the unbalanced luminance which rose. The liquid crystal display device having a means to drive the liquid crystal layer and using a dynamic variation of the transmitivity of a liquid crystal device is also provided.
