In order to reflect, in a sampling container, the environment within a pressurized fluid system, pressurized fluid tapped from the pressurized fluid system is caused to flow through the sampling container (22) and back into the fluid system for a predeterminedtime interval. When flowing through the sampling container thepressurized fluid sweeps one or more substrate bodies (60; 64, 65; 75; 78) having representative material surfaces of a configu-ration and nature adapted to simulate the environment of the fluid system.
