PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for compensating a fuel amount are provided to improve startability by considering an introduced air amount according to the open degree of a throttle valve when starting an engine, and then compensating a fuel injection amount. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for compensating a fuel amount is composed of a start switch, a throttle valve sensing unit measuring the open degree of a throttle valve interlocked with an accelerator pedal, and an engine control unit measuring the open degree of the throttle valve if the start switch is operated, calculating the compensation factor of the fuel amount according to the measured open degree and compensating a basic fuel injection amount according to the calculated compensation factor.
