PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the print image quality of an image printer. SOLUTION: The image printer is provided with a line exposure head, a clamping transport roller 10 for exposure which makes the clamping transport of printing paper exposed by the line exposure head to the subscanning direction which intersects the horizontal scanning direction of the line exposure head via an exposure position EP, and a feeding side clamping transport roller 2 which makes the clamping transport of the printing paper 1 and supplies the printing paper 1 to the clamping transport roller 10 for exposure. Before the exposure start edge in the printing paper transported of the clamping transport roller for exposure arrives at the exposure position EP, the feeding side clamping transport roller 2 is switched over to pressure-released state from pressure-applied transport state.
