PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile gateway system, with which facsimile communication using a nonstandard signal is enabled, for the facsimile geteway system specified by ITU-T recommendation T.38. SOLUTION: This system has a first detecting means for detecting whether connected facsimile machine can use nonstandard communication based on a nonstandard signal, with which the communication delays of a prescribed quantity in communication via a computer network is allowed, first transmitting means for transmitting an initial identification signal, in response to a communication request to the computer network, while containing the nonstandard signal only when the facsimile equipment can use the nonstandard communication when there is a communication request through the computer network to the facsimile machine, and second transmitting means for transmitting the nonstandard signal to the computer network, only when the facsimile equipment of the transmission destination can use the nonstandard communication and the facsimile machine designates the nonstandard communication, when there is a transmission request from the facsimile machine through the computer network to the other transmission enabled facsimile machine.
