Relates to a method of accurately mounting a wheel-set in correct alignment on a railway vehicle bogie 1 in which each axle bearing casing 22, Fig. 1, is connected through rubber joints 25 and fore and aft longitudinally extending leaf spring links 19 to the frame of the bogie 1 and a helical or rubber spring 17 is interposed directly between the top of the casing 22 and the frame 1. The spring 17 is first prestressed by means of a nut 18, Fig. 4, engaging a threaded portion of a guide device 12. The latter comprises a flange 13 welded to the bogie side frame 2 and having a depending sleeve 11 to receive an upstanding tube 16 whose upper end is threaded to receive the nut 18. The tube 16 is welded to a plate 15 to be mounted on the casing 22 and subsequently securable thereto by a bolt 40 passing through the tube 16 and engaging an internally threaded boss 23 on the casing 22. The frame 1 and the prestressed spring 17 are then lowered onto the casing 22 and secured thereto by the bolt 40, elongated transversely extending serrations 26 on the outer ends of the links 19 at this time slidingly engaging complementary serrations 8 on plates 7 welded to brackets 4, 5, depending from the side frame 2. The wheel 21 is then adjusted relative to its track rail 35 by engaging against a stop 31 on an elongated mounting rule or bar 29 clamped at 30 to the bogie frame and also against a stop 32 adjustable on the bogie frame, such adjustment causing relative sliding between the sets of serrations 8, 26. The roller bearing for the wheel is then adjusted in the casing 22 to take-up all axial play whereafter the sets of serrations 8, 26 are locked together by bolts 28<SP>1</SP> and nuts 28. The nut 18 is then removed and replaced by an internally-threaded bush 39. |
