PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image converting method for converting a color image into a monochrome image whose color can be identified, a conversion device and a recording medium. SOLUTION: This device operates one or a plurality of difference values among the difference value between an R value and a G value, the difference value between a B value and the G value, and the difference value between the R value and the B value in addition to the R value, the G value and the B value of each pixel of a photographic area 11a, sets a 1st color area for regarding it as the same color as one or a plurality of selected pixels with respect to one or a plurality of difference values among the difference value between an R value and a G value, the difference value between a B value and the G value, and the difference value between the R value and the B value as well as the R value, the G value and the B value of the pixel or pixels, and obtains a monochrome image obtained by defining the total excess amount from the 1st color area of one or a plurality of difference values among the difference value between an R value and a G value, the difference value between a B value and the G value, and the difference value between the R value and the B value as well as the R value, the G value and the B value of an optional pixel in the area 11a as a luminance value.
