PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a database for the image data on documents and the contents data on the documents. SOLUTION: In this electronic filing system where the image data on documents the character data on the contents of the documents are registered correlating each other the system is provided with a DB server 11 which registers the said character data, a filing server 12 which registers the said image data, a fast image scanner 16 which recognizes a partition sheet that partitions a set of documents and also reads the document images and a control means which associates the given character data on the contents of documents of each set with the document image data on each set which are read by the scanner 16, associates the document number data with the read documents, registers the character data on the contents of documents of each set and the document number data to the server 11 with correspondence secured between both data and also registers the read image data on each set of documents and the document number data to the server 12 with correspondence secured between both data.
