PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the rotating direction without applying dither. SOLUTION: This ring laser gyroscope in which first and second laser beams having different rotating directions are propagated is provided with a plurality of electrode regions 1-4 on light waveguides forming ring lasers. The currents or voltages applied to the electrode regions 1-4 are controlled to make the oscillation frequencies of the first and second laser beams different when the ring laser gyroscope is kept stationary.
