In a nitric oxide (NOx) removal system, ammonia is injected to flue gases of plants burning carbonaceous products, such as pulverized coal containing fly ash and NOx. The NOx are reduced by ammonia in a SCR/SCNR module (40). Fly ash containing deposited ammonia is collected in an electrostatic precipitator or bag house (42). The ammonia is removed from the fly ash by sluicing the fly ash with water (43) to a pond (45), producing therefor an ammonia rich water (47). The ammonia rich water (47) is then conditioned in the presence of magnesium and phosphates ions in an ammonia removal module (50). A substantial portion of the ammonia content is precipitated in the form of struvite (60), which may be used as a component in plant fertilization.
|
