A belt for non-stage transmissions, wherein a first clearance (CLNH) is form ed between convex and concave portions formed in the front and back surfaces of a metal element and a second clearance (CLy) is formed between the upper surfa ce of a metal ring assembly and the lower surface of the ear portion of a metal element. Setting (CLy) > (CLNH) ensures that when the pitching of the met al element occurs, first the convex and concave portions are brought into conta ct each other, preventing durability from lowering when the lower surface of th e ear portion contacts the upper surface of the metal ring assembly. Let TL be the thickness of the metal ring assembly and D be the vertical clearance in a ring slot, then if the value of D/TL exceeds 1-1/8, the power transmission efficiency decreases; thus, by setting the value of D/T less than 1-1/8, the lowering of power transmission efficiency can be prevented. Thereby, it is possible to secure power transmission efficiency while preventing the loweri ng of the durability of the metal ring assembly due to the pitching of the meta l element.
