A retaining device for use with safety ski bindings to prevent loss of the ski in the event of release of the binding comprises a retaining cable secured at one end to the ski and at the other end to a coupling member which engages automatically with a coupling member on the ski boot as the boot is inserted into the binding, and a release mechanism for the interengaged coupling members.
